"Grizzly Trail Blazer - 399"

"Grizzly Trail Blazer - 399"

Last year’s work “Legacy of Grizzly 399” was very well received, with only three castings left from the limited edition of 30. New for 2022 is a sand cast bas-relief bronze casting of our celebrated Grizzly 399 and her four cubs, and is titled “Grizzly Trail Blazer - 399” . This remarkable bear is now 27 years old and it is thought to have raised 17 cubs to date. She spent most of the summer beneath the Tetons in her familiar territory around Pilgrim Creek. I was very fortunate to see them twice in the past year, once in the spring in their home territory of Pilgrim Creek, and again in the fall just outside Jackson on East Gros Venture Butte. As winter closed in, the family returned to their den for the winter. They appeared on schedule this spring out of hibernation, with all four of her off-spring, returning to the Pilgrim Creek area to soon go off in to the world on their own. “Grizzly Trail Blazer - 399” measures 7 X 40 inches, with a limited edition of 50 patinaed bronze bas-relief castings, and is available for $ 1,450. We hope to see you here this summer at the Studio along Fish Creek in Wilson. See this work first hand, as well as other bronzes and works in progress in the Studio. Visit the life-size bronze sculpture garden, the 100-year-old Mortensen home and historic GP Bar Ranch guest cabin. Please call me with any questions you have, and to reserve your bronze casting of “Grizzly Trail Blazer – 399”. (To see more images click on photo)

"Treasures of the Navajo"

"Treasures of the Navajo"

"Treasures of the Navajo" (to see more images, click on photo) New for 2022 is "Treasures of the Navajo". This work depicts some of the many treasures of the Navajo Indians. These include their horses, shown as the primary focus of the piece with the bust of a typical Navajo pony, as well as a bas-relief of a horse on the base. On another side is a bas-relief of their Churro four horned sheep, which were introduced by the Spanish in the 1500's, and draped across the top is a woven textile of a Navajo horse blanket. These hardy sheep with coarse, multi-colored wool have been preferred by the Navajo for over 200 years. Their skill as silversmiths is also shown in the historic silver Navajo headstall, with real turquoise set into the headstall, along with a Spanish ring bit, and a classic silver concho belt, with turquoise stones depicted in bronze, is draped across the top of the base. Another treasure of the Navajo is their land itself , across Utah, Arizona and New Mexico, and is symbolized by a bas-relief of the "Mittens" in Monument Valley on the base. "Treasures of the Navajo" is cast in bronze with a multi-colored patina designed to highlight each part of the piece. It measures 16 x 7 inches, the edition is limited to 30 castings, and the price is $3,800.

Picket Line

Picket Line

"Picket Line" (To see more images, "click" on photo) New this year is "Picket Line". This work was inspired by the Big Horn Mountain Trail Ride, which I enjoyed in July 2018. It is a 100 man only, invitational trail ride covering different parts of the Big Horn Mountains. In 2018 we followed the trails, and sometimes not, territory in the northern most region of the Big Horns’. The Ride has celebrated over 60 years, covering the Big Horn Mountain Range north to south. Each rider’s horse, as well as those of the Wranglers, are picketed on a long steel cable, over 100 horses all in a single line. Historically this practice was used, on a smaller scale, on trail drives, hunting camps and the like to secure horses at night along the trail. The horse is tied to the line with a bowline knot, and saddled, ready for the morning ride. A stray saddle with rain slicker and blanket is also depicted on the ground, as well as the horse’s bridle hung on the support post. “Picket Line” is cast in bronze with a contrasting brown patina. I measures 15 X 22 inches. The edition is limited to 30 castings, and the price is $ 4,200. We hope to see you here this summer at the Studio along Fish Creek in Wilson and see this work first hand, as well as other bronzes and works in progress in the Studio. Visit the life-size bronze sculpture garden, the 100-year-old Mortensen home and historic GP Bar Ranch guest cabin. Please call me with any questions you have, and to reserve your bronze casting of “Picket Line”.
